katie’s costume party.
since it was her golden birthday – and that only comes once in your life – I let kate plan out her own party… she decided on a theme – costumes. wrote up her own invitation list, (which included old and young alike – i like that about kate.. she’s friends w/ everyone!) and came up w/ the activities of the day, (which included doing the chicken dance and the hokey- pokey!)
this past Saturday was the big event. and we prayed really hard for a sunny, warm day – it had been in the chilly 60’s. But God delights in even the smallest things for His children – and the day was gorgeous. We were even HOT!
So ~ here’s my documentation of the day…. (thanks to my s-i-l who took most of the pictures!)
kate chose to be a cowgirl.
ben, a pirate.
we think he looks pretty good with a beard!
and emma was… a little yellow chicken.
Shayne and I did the 1920’s…
as the Gangsta and the Flapper.
and we had quite a few celebrities too –
Johnny Depp – Tim McGraw – Dierks Bentley…
better known as Uncle Danny, Uncle Jeff, and Uncle Nate!
there was Audrey Hepburn – a.k.a – gorgeous carly
and John Travolto – better known to us just Jonny! :)
a few clowns showed up – who we like to call mamaw and papaw!
(thanks mom and dad~ you were such great sports! it just made Katie’s day when she saw you come to the door all dressed up! you didn’t have to do that. but you’re FUN!! one of the many reasons we all love you)
there was an adorable 50’s girl – that’s just adorable no matter what she is. an exotic queen – that I think could stand up against any queen.
and some absolutely ravishing princess’ from all over the world-
a chic hippie, adorable farmer, and “punk” (that’s really the farthest thing from a punk in real life!) turned up too –
We had a hoot seeing everyone’s costume ~ such a great idea kate! I think I could get into the wig wearing.. saves so much time on hair. though I don’t think I like the brunette look –
it was a fun filled day…
with things like…
the 3-legged race.
in the end i think cleopatra and the nile goddess won! (gotta watch those egyptians – they’re fast!)
the chicken dance – of course…
and the hokey- pokey…
and that’s what it’s all about! cha. cha. cha.
then a little sand art fun…
just some fun- fun…
and girls being girls…
it was a special day –
One I know Kate will always remember…
because you’re only 10 on the 10th once in your life!!
… saying THANKS at the end of the day.
and thanks to all of you who left her such sweet birthday comments. she loved coming on and reading them all. I would see her sitting here just grinning from ear to ear… she was touched. and so was i.
we don’t raise our kids alone, ya know? God surrounds us with “so great a cloud of witnesses.” and what a JOY that is in our lives!!
hope your week is off to a great start – if not, grab a wig or a clown nose and stick it on for the day. you’re sure to have loads of fun… if not just a good laugh!
