katie’s costume party.

IMG_0759

since it was her golden birthday – and that only comes once in your life – I let kate plan out her own party… she decided on a theme – costumes. wrote up her own invitation list, (which included old and young alike – i like that about kate.. she’s friends w/ everyone!) and came up w/ the activities of the day, (which included doing the chicken dance and the hokey- pokey!)

this past Saturday was the big event. and we prayed really hard for a sunny, warm day – it had been in the chilly 60’s. But God delights in even the smallest things for His children – and the day was gorgeous. We were even HOT!

So ~ here’s my documentation of the day…. (thanks to my s-i-l who took most of the pictures!)

kate chose to be a cowgirl.

ben, a pirate.

and emma was…IMG_0712 a little yellow chicken.

Shayne and I did the 1920’s…

as the Gangsta and the Flapper.

and we had quite a few celebrities too –

Johnny Depp – Tim McGraw – Dierks Bentley…

IMG_0866 (1)
better known as Uncle Danny, Uncle Jeff, and Uncle Nate!

there was Audrey Hepburn – IMG_0736 a.k.a – gorgeous carly

and John Travolto – IMG_0698 better known to us just Jonny! :)

a few clowns showed up –IMG_0693 who we like to call mamaw and papaw!

IMG_1123 (1)(thanks mom and dad~ you were such great sports! it just made Katie’s day when she saw you come to the door all dressed up! you didn’t have to do that. but you’re FUN!! one of the many reasons we all love you)

there was an adorable 50’s girl – that’s just adorable no matter what she is. an exotic queen – that I think could stand up against any queen.
IMG_0738IMG_0774

and some absolutely ravishing princess’ from all over the world-
IMG_0743

a chic hippie, adorable farmer, and “punk” (that’s really the farthest thing from a punk in real life!) turned up too –

We had a hoot seeing everyone’s costume ~ such a great idea kate! I think I could get into the wig wearing.. saves so much time on hair. though I don’t think I like the brunette look –
IMG_0841

it was a fun filled day…

with things like…

because you’re only 10 on the 10th once in your life!!

… saying THANKS at the end of the day.

and thanks to all of you who left her such sweet birthday comments. she loved coming on and reading them all. I would see her sitting here just grinning from ear to ear… she was touched. and so was i.

we don’t raise our kids alone, ya know? God surrounds us with “so great a cloud of witnesses.” and what a JOY that is in our lives!!

hope your week is off to a great start – if not, grab a wig or a clown nose and stick it on for the day. you’re sure to have loads of fun… if not just a good laugh!

What fun! A big “dress up” party! But for guys and gals! too cute. What a great idea, Kate.
And what a great mom you are to pull it off for her.
I very well remember my 10th birthday. Memories and pictures I still have of that day.
I had a party on my 10th and 15th. And then my 30th.
My week is starting out crazy, but that’s ok. We”re along for the ride!

Oh my gosh! That looked like SOOOOOOO much fun! I am so going to remember this one! And I LOVE your flapper outfit… so perfect.. yours, shane’s and your brothers (especially johnny depp) were my fav’s…. SO creative… I love it when people actually TRY to look like whoever they want to dress up as…. I have been to some “costume” parties where there is little effort and that just ruins it.:) So way to go Kate! What a great idea!!!!!

That looks like a total blast! The costumes are AWESOME!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!!!!!! (sorry it’s a bit late:() Hope you had a blast! Wow! It’s hard to believe that your 10! Eeks! I remember when you were just this adorable little girl running around church. You are turning into quite the lady! I am a bit jealous. You have such a love for the Lord and for people. I wish that I had been that way when I was your age. I wouldn’t have wasted so much time. It was great seeing you while I was home. I was a little bummed that I couldn’t have spent some more time with you. Your a blessing to me. I miss seeing your smiles and hugs. Hope your coming year is filled with blessings as you continue to grow up and grow closer to the Lord. Love ya girlie! *HUGS*

btw… LOVE Emma’s costume! She makes a VERY cute fluffy chicken!

i forgot to mention in my post a funny side note – –

friday night when i was trying to get my wig to look right, ben came walking around the corner in the hallway and stopped dead in his tracks…

“whoa mom! are you gonna be Cruella Deville? or an Indian?”

guess you could say the wig was very versatile!!

Hey A~  I think you & your hubby look “Dashing!” ( I think that is a word from the 20’s to say–really cool!) I love the pic of your folks!  How cute! Your bothers look like the real thing!  Glad it all turned out so well for Kate….  Compare your picture to the one you posted recently of your Grandma C when she was just married~~I think you look so much like her!  :)

    Love & thoughts, Mrs. B

P.S. We will be going to China after all, please keep us in your prayers! :)
